Eddie Murphy Action Comedy ‘Tower Heist’ to Play in Homes While It’s Still in Theaters — but It Won’t Be Cheap

Eddie Murphy’s new action comedy "Tower Heist" will be available in some markets via video-on-demand just three weeks after it debuts in theaters — but at a hefty price, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

The movie, which will be released Nov. 4 in theaters, will be available on VOD for $59.99 as part of a trial run, the story notes. At that price, many strapped consumers may opt to skip the offer, the article adds.

The test will be offered in Atlanta and Portland, Ore., to about 500,000 digital cable subscribers of Comcast, which also owns Universal Pictures, which produced the film, the story says.

The offer will mark the first time a major studio movie will be available to watch in-home while still playing in theaters, the piece points out.
