Russell Brand and Katy Perry, who were married only 14 months ago, are getting a divorce, according to TMZ. 

It began as a storybook Hollywood relationship, with the couple meeting when Brand hosted the MTV Music Awards, in which Perry was appearing.

According to the story, the divorce papers, filed by Brand in Los Angeles today, Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, cite " ‘irreconcilable differences.’ The two were married Oct. 23, 2010 in India. They have no kids.The divorce docs say there are ‘community property assets"’ — it’s a sign there might not be a prenup, or if there is one it doesn’t cover all of the earnings and other assets they accumulated. The docs do not give a date the couple separated."

The divorce comes after months of denial by the couple that their marriage was in trouble. In a timeline published by E! Online about the relationship, as recently as Nov. 30th a representative for Brand called a report of marital problems between Brand and Perry a "rumor."

And on Dec. 2nd, 2011, TMZ reports, "Russell appeared on ‘Ellen’…slamming divorce rumors — claiming, ‘I’m really happily married … I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.’ "

TMZ added that today Brand "released a statement claiming, ‘Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.’ "
