Just hours after NBC settled on an actor to play Herman Munster in “Mockingbird Lane,” as previously reported, word surfaced that the network has decided on an actress to play Herman’s wife, Lily Munster, in the project, Deadline.com reports.

NBC wants Mariana Klaveno to play Lily. However, Klaveno is committed to ABC’s “Devious Maids” and would have to get a release from the show to take the “Mockingbird” job.

The report notes: “Klaveno is not one of the leads on ‘Devious Maids’ and has just a few lines in the pilot. But in light of the project’s possible move to Lifetime, in an act of gamesmanship or a mix of both, ‘Devious Maids’ producer ABC Studios has so far refused to release the actress.”

In a departure from protocol, NBC is said to be willing to allow Klaveno, who appeared in HBO’s "True Blood," to play a recurring role on the ABC show to get her services as the female lead in the “Munsters” reboot, the story reports. However, ABC Studios appears to be playing hardball.

“At this point, with ABC Studios digging in (they have Klaveno in first position until at least June 30 when they can extend her option), it is probably going to take a miracle, or call from NBC topper Bob Greenblatt to ‘Devious Maids’ creator Marc Cherry, to get her released,” the story reports. “If that doesn’t happen, NBC will likely go back to the drawing board and start casting the Lily Munster role again.”

Veteran actress Yvonne DeCarlo played Lily Munster in the original series.

  1. If NBC could contractually assure her “dependability” with a clause: Lindsay Lohan would be a better choice, and has the right ‘look,’ to portray “Lily Munster”…
