Jeff Zucker Has Been Chosen to Run CNN, NY Times Reports

Nov 27, 2012  •  Post A Comment

"Several news executives close to [Jeff] Zucker said this week that they believed he had been chosen to run CNN, and they expected the appointment to be announced soon. People close to the Time Warner chief executive, Jeffrey L. Bewkes, also identified Mr. Zucker. A Time Warner spokesman declined to comment."

So writes Brian Stelter in The New York Times. Our good friend Bill Carter "contributed reporting" to the story.

Oddly, the paragraph we quote above is not the lead of the story, but, rather, the fifth paragraph of the article, which is primarily about CNN’s woes.

Following up on the NY Times story, Dominic Patten at Deadline.com writes, "A source with knowledge of the Zucker/CNN talks confirmed to Deadline, ‘They have been in conversation for a long time and it looks like this is a done deal.’ "

CNN’s longtime president, Jim Walton, announced in July that he will be leaving CNN at the end of this year.

Zucker, the former CEO of NBCUniversal, has been running Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show for ABC/Disney. As previously reported, Couric has been actively looking for someone to replace Zucker should he leave her show.

  1. Stunning how abject failure is so richly rewarded in this world. Maybe Jeff can take down CNN too.
