Lifetime has canceled a scripted drama series after four seasons, Deadline.com reports. Executives waited until the last minute to make a decision on the show, "Drop Dead Diva," because they wanted to get a chance to see some of the network’s pilots, the story reports.

The cancellation means that Lifetime executives probably like their incoming batch of projects, the piece notes. "There had been speculation that Lifetime brass felt ‘Drop Dead Diva’ did not fit into the network’s shift toward edgier fare," the article points out.

The show was dropped despite solid ratings, with its recent season averaging more than 2 million viewers an episode in Live + Same Day.

"Drop Dead Diva" stars Brooke Elliott as an aspiring model whose soul gets trapped in the body of a brilliant, plus-sized attorney.
