The headline on Deadline.com reads "SHOCKER! Charlie Hunnam Exits Christian Grey Role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ "

Writes our friend Mike Fleming Jr. in that story, "Well, here’s a surprise. Universal is going to have to look harder to find its S&M minded zillionaire Christian Grey because ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ star Charlie Hunnam has exited the role he only just got. He was set early last month to star in what is expected to be at least three movies based on the EL James novel trilogy ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey.’

According to the story, Universal released a statement blaming Hunnam’s "immersive TV schedule" as the reason he dropped out of the movie role.

However, Fleming writes, "It seems more likely that Hunnam had time to think about it, and decided the role didn’t fit him like that ‘Sons’ leather jacket he wears. There is a lot of nudity in the film, and calls for the kind of things that might make a veteran actor like Hunnam uncomfortable. Or maybe he watched as the ‘Twilight’ saga leads turned into celebrities and didn’t want that."

Writes the Hollywood Reporter, "Two sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Hunnam, 33, was overwhelmed with the attention he received from being cast in the movie and got cold feet about carrying such a high-profile project. Universal was forced to hire bodyguards for the actor at a recent ‘Sons of Anarchy’ premiere, where questions about ‘Fifty Shades’ dominated the red carpet. The sources caution that Hunnam had no reservation about the role of Christian Grey, just the media and fan frenzy that came along with it, especially as he was transitioning from ‘Sons’ to ‘Fifty Shades’ so quickly."

For those not familiar with the "Fifty Shades" phenomenon, here’s an excerpt from a report that ran on "Good Morning America": "The romance novels of EL James are heating up bedrooms across the country, and fans can’t seem to get enough of what is being called ‘mommy porn.’ [In the first book] Anastasia Steele, 21, and a virginal college student, can’t say no to dashing 27-year-old Christian Grey, who insists she sign a contract that allows him to submit her to his every sadomasochistic whim."

"Mommy porn" refers to the young suburban moms who reportedly make up a large part of the fan base for "Fifty Shades."
