A popular television chef has reportedly been banned from entering the United States. The U.K. publication The Daily Mail reports that Nigella Lawson was hit with the ban after she confessed in a court case that she had used drugs.

Lawson was reportedly turned back at Heathrow Airport in the U.K., where she was trying to board a flight to Los Angeles, the story notes. Because of that, her U.S. career is apparently now in peril, given that she’s appearing as a judge on the ABC reality competition “The Taste,” the story reports.

“Miss Lawson is thought to have tried to enter the U.S. by registering online for permission to travel and confirming she had not been arrested or convicted of offences including taking illegal drugs. But the U.S. can also decide to bar foreigners who have committed drugs offences without ever being charged. Would-be travellers can apply to have the ban lifted, but this can take months,” the Daily Mail reports.

The report adds: “The specific grounds on which she was barred entry to the U.S. have not been confirmed. And it is not known if she was stopped at passport control or at the departure gate where passports are often scanned.”

During a trial of her former housekeepers, who were accused of stealing money from her and her former husband, Lawson admitted to using cocaine, although said she wasn’t an addict or habitual user. She said she had used drugs to cope with the death of her first husband, and the “intimate terrorism” of her second husband, Charles Saatchi.
