Founded: Pathfire was founded as Video Networks Inc. in 1996. The company changed its name to Pathfire in January 2001.

What the company does: Pathfire is a business-to-business provider of digital media content distribution and management services. The company’s Media Commerce Network allows customers to manage distribution of ads, news, movies, syndication productions, stock footage and other types of video content. “What we are bringing [to NAB] is the only implemented, end-to-end solution for digital media asset
management,” Mr. Eckert said.

What they’re highlighting: Pathfire will demonstrate its Digital Media Gateway Platform, which allows broadcast stations to aggregate content from many different sources into a shared server platform that integrates with the station’s downstream equipment.
“It’s cost-efficient for everybody in the supply chain,” Mr. Eckert said. “It’s faster, less expensive, higher quality, takes advantage of digital technology and helps the station evolve toward the digital infrastructure.”
Pathfire will also be speaking with stations about its central-casting solutions. “We believe our technology is perfect in terms of being a solution
for broadcast stations and broadcast groups as they evolve their respective central-casting plans,” Mr. Eckert said. “We believe we have some things that nobody else in the industry has.”
Recent projects: In March, Pathfire signed an agreement with VDI MultiMedia to deliver commercials to broadcast stations through Pathfire’s Digital Media Gateway platform.
“We intend to make a lot of progress in the ad space,” Mr. Eckert said. “There are a couple of other companies that are delivering ads to servers, but these servers have outdated technology. So what we’ve done is raise the bar in terms of the competition. Our solution is significantly more leading-edge than theirs is.”
