Canal Plus wins deal with WINFirst

Interactive TV technology provider Canal Plus Technologies will serve as software integrator for the rollout of a first-of-its-kind fiber-to-home network deployed by WINFirst and provide services and content, leveraging its position as sister company to Universal. The 11/2-year-old Denver-based WINFirst has received regulatory approval to build networks to more than 3.7 million homes in Sacramento, Calif., San Diego, Austin, Texas, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Seattle. Further WINFirst plans are pending for Los Angeles, the East Bay area near San Francisco and Portland, Ore.

Motorola, SONICblue in set-top link

Motorola and SONICblue’s ReplayTV will develop software with digital video recording capabilities for Motorola’s DCT5000 set-top boxes. The boxes are expected to be available in the fourth quarter. It’s the first deal signed under Replay’s new licensing model. ReplayTV software technologies are also available at retail on Panasonic’s ShowStoppers.
