Groups blast navigation-device rules
Time Warner and the Consumer Electronics Association have both taken potshots at the Federal Communications Commission rules for navigation devices that are now under review. Time Warner wants the FCC to rule that electronic program guides are “not program related” and are thus not entitled to the mandatory carriage protections; Gemstar-TV Guide International’s EPG is specifically mentioned in the request. The CEA warned that competition for services and equipment would be “stifled” without a level playing field.
RealPlayer coming to PlayStation, Nokia device
RealNetworks will embed its RealPlayer 8 and other RealNetworks client technologies on Sony’s PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and in the PlayStation 2 Software Development Kit. The company will also integrate RealPlayer into Nokia’s new Media Terminal, an innovative infotainment home device that combines digital video broadcast, gaming, streaming, downloadable digital media, full Internet access and personal video recorder technology.
