Quick Takes: Is NBC’s `Fear Factor’ entertaining or just disturbing?

“I’m concerned about this being one more step down the slippery slope. How much imagination does it take for a kid to strap himself into horse’s reins and have himself drug through the mud? `Fear Factor’ sounds to me like another accident waiting to happen.”
Mike McDaniel, television critic, Houston Chronicle
“I think when it isn’t disturbing, it’s inane. I don’t have a problem with people being nibbled by rats. I don’t want to watch it, though. It’s about as entertaining as watching a traffic jam. Any curiosity I had about [the show] was satisfied in the first seven minutes.”
Joanne Weintraub, television critic, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
“`Disappointing’ is a better word. Though I’m not sure if I’m more fed up with the network of `The West Wing’ for repackaging old movie stunts as a reality TV game show, or with young viewers for watching this awful mix of `Jackass’ and `Survivor.”’
