ABC to host July affiliates meeting
New York-ABC will host an affiliates convention July 10 in Chicago. The schedule is still under discussion, said a network spokeswoman, but it is likely to include traditional daypart presentations by executives from news, sports, sales and marketing. The schedule is also likely to allow freshman Entertainment President Susan Lyne ample opportunity to meet and greet the affiliates, who have had a rough ride over two seasons of prime-time decline.
Magna Global, Viacom Plus consider deal
New York-Magna Global USA, which claims more billings than any other media shop, was in serious discussions late last week with Viacom Plus to do a major deal, according to executives familiar with the discussions. An exact dollar figure was unavailable, but a rival mega-media agency, OMD USA, has tried to close billion-dollar multiplatform deals. “The Magna deal is certainly not all that dissimilar to what OMD has been talking about,” said one executive. Magna Chairman Bill Cella could not be reached.
CNN Intl. to show HBO’s 9/11 documentary
New York-HBO is expected to announce this week that it is giving permission to telecast “In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01” on CNN International’s five feeds worldwide, which do not include the United States.
Subaru launches TV ads
Cherry Hill, N.J.-Subaru of America has returned to national TV advertising for the first time since 1997, AdAge.com reports. The new campaign also includes local TV advertising.
