Universal, Tribune team on syndicated series
Los Angeles-Tribune Broadcasting and Universal Television Enterprises have entered into an agreement to create a first-run strip to air in national syndication. The show, to be co-developed and co-produced by Universal and Tribune Entertainment, will be cleared on Tribune’s television stations. UTE will handle station sales, and Tribune Entertainment will be responsible for advertising sales.
New Vision Group buys KSBY in San Luis Obispo
Los Angeles-SJL of California sold NBC affiliate KSBY-TV, San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Atlanta-based New Vision Group. KSBY-TV serves the Santa Barbara, Calif., DMA.
FCC to vote on cable program-access rules
Washington-The FCC on Thursday is expected to vote to extend rules that require cable operators to sell their networks to competitors. Without FCC action, the program-access rules will expire Oct. 5.
Ware leaving UPN, may go to Vivendi or Vulcan
Los Angeles-Adam Ware, chief operating officer of UPN since February 1999, announced Friday his departure from the company.
Network TV sources said Mr. Ware is currently studying several options. Topping the rumor mill is that Mr. Ware reportedly is considering a senior-level position within billionaire Paul Allen’s Vulcan Ventures. Mr. Ware is also said to have held talks about a potential executive-level position within Barry Diller’s Universal Television/Vivendi studio group. Mr. Ware declined to confirm or deny any of the speculation on his future.
