Syndicators lean toward September premieres

After two years of disruptions from elections, the Olympics and the terrorist attacks, syndicators are planting roots early next season, with several distributors bucking the trend of an October launch in favor of the traditional September premiere.
Already, Sept. 16 is shaping up to be a wild free-for-all, since seven new syndicated strips will hit the airwaves. That Monday will see “Dr. Phil,” “Beyond With James Van Praagh” and “Rob Nelson” pitted against new game shows “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” and “Pyramid” as well as off-network fare “That ’70s Show” and “The Hughleys.”
The first series out of the gate will be the Telepictures tandem of “Caroline Rhea” and “Celebrity Justice” and Buena Vista’s “The Wayne Brady Show” on Sept. 2.
