Ahern to run WBBM
New York-The Viacom Television Stations Group hired Joe Ahern, an ABC stations veteran who has been general manager of top-ranked KGO-TV in San Francisco for four years, to be president and general manager of Viacom-owned WBBM-TV, Chicago. He starts on Aug. 12. He replaces Walt DeHaven, who is expected to be offered another GM position within Viacom.
Morning shows ready for Elvis anniversary
New York-NBC’s “Today” show will originate from Elvis Presley’s estate, Graceland, in Memphis, Tenn., on Wednesday Aug. 14 to mark the 25th anniversary of his death. ABC’s “Good Morning America” will broadcast from the landmark on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Clear Channel leaders vouch for firm’s reports
Los Angeles-Lowry Mays, chairman and CEO of Clear Channel Worldwide, said he and Chief Financial Officer Randall Mays signed sworn statements Friday personally attesting that Clear Channel’s most recent periodic reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission contain no material errors or omissions.
KCBS to air pre-empted programming on KCAL
Los Angeles-When KCBS-TV, Los Angeles, broadcasts preseason Raiders games in prime time on Aug. 9 and Aug. 24 and a locally produced “Countdown to the Latin Grammy Awards” special on Sept. 18, duopoly sister station KCAL-TV will air CBS’s network programming in their original time slots. The CBS series affected are “48 Hours” and “Big Brother.”
