Since when does Electronic Media print press releases like the one masquerading as news titled “The most popular newsmagazines of 2002” (EM, Dec. 16)?
The “article” featured a top 10 list [based on Nielsen Media Research figures for the 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 demographics] dominated by NBC newsmagazines.
Perhaps now you would print the top 10 list that is based on the standard universally used by the industry and confirmed last year by Nielsen: total viewers.
By that measure, “60 Minutes” registers nine of the top 10 most-viewed newsmagazines of 2002, reflective of its status as the most-watched newsmagazine of all time. It is also, as most recently evidenced by Lesley Stahl’s news-making interview with Al Gore, still the newsmagazine of record.
