Comedienne and actress Mo’Nique is being tapped by Big Ticket Television and Paramount as a potential talk show hostess for fall 2004.
Mo’Nique Imes-Jackson currently stars as Nikki Parker on UPN’s The Parkers. The talk show she would host is being developed by Parkers distributor Paramount. The project is the first talk show confirmed in development for the fall 2004 season, according to sources.
Mo’Nique’s stand-up routine landed her a starring role in the hit comedy film The Queens of Comedy, which was released by Paramount Pictures and aired on the Showtime network. A live comedy concert version of The Queens of Comedy toured the country and yielded a hit album of the same title that went on to earn a Grammy nomination for best spoken comedy album.
For her performance in The Parkers Mo’Nique won NAACP Image awards for outstanding actress in a comedy series in 2001 and 2002. In addition, she appeared in the feature films 3 Strikes with David Alan Grier and George Wallace II, director John Singleton’s Baby Boy and opposite Vivica A. Fox in the Screen Gems production Two Can Play That Game.
The Parkers has aired for four season on UPN and will begin its off-net run in syndication this fall. The series has cleared most of the country, including top Fox stations WNYW in New York and KTTV in Los Angeles. The series is now being readied for year five on the network.
