If you think there are already too many reality series coming this summer, you may not be ready for what FX is expected to call the Friday Night Experience. Our sources say that under a plan still in development the cable network will roll out three to five new high-concept reality or talk-reality series under that umbrella title beginning in June. Some series will be based on familiar concepts and others appear to have breakthrough potential. FX isn’t talking, but the tentatively titled shows being considered include The Bill Weir Project, a talk reality series hosted by the former KABC-TV and WGN-TV sportscaster; Master Plan, a reality contest in which the home audience votes on how to solve the problems of on-air contestants; The Hitchhiker, described as “loosely based” on the 1980s horror mystery that linked episodes through the use of a spooky narrator; Drive Shaft, a reality series described as Monster Garage meets Real World, and Behind the Wheel, a reality series that follows three NASCAR drivers.
