Close-up: Dan Weiss

Dan Weiss has been named to the newly created post of executive VP, worldwide marketing, for Universal’s domestic and international television divisions. Mr. Weiss will oversee all marketing functions for both the domestic and international television markets, including worldwide pay-per-view and video-on-demand, with campaigns for an extensive slate of network and first-run series, off-network programming and motion pictures. Departments under worldwide marketing reporting to Mr. Weiss include affiliate relations and advertising, communications, promotions-partnerships and creative services. He joins Universal from The Carsey-Werner-Mandabach Co., where he had been senior VP, marketing and creative services, since 1995. Responsible for worldwide marketing of CWM’s network, off-network and first-run programming, Mr. Weiss managed a large creative team. He most recently spearheaded the successful syndication launch of That ’70s Show, including a highly rated VH1 special about the making of the campaign. From 1989-95, Mr. Weiss served as VP, creative services, for Disney’s Buena Vista Television. Before going to BVT, Mr. Weiss was VP, affiliate advertising and creative services, for Fox. He was director of NBC’s affiliate advertising and promotion services from 1985-87. He began his marketing career in 1983 as a writer-producer in NBC’s on-air promotion department.
