James Spader is in final negotiations to join the cast of ABC drama series “The Practice.” … Charisma Carpenter (“Angel”) and Holly Marie Combs (“Charmed”) will star in the ABC Family movie “See Jane Date,” based on the book by Melissa Senate about a single girl who tries to impress her high school nemesis, by inventing the perfect boyfriend to date. Zachary Levi (“Less Than Perfect”), Antonio Sabato Jr. (“Melrose Place”), Geoff Stults (7th Heaven”) and Evan Marriott (“Joe Millionaire”) have joined the cast as potential suitors. … Tony Denison (“The DA”), Omar Gooding (“Baby Boy”) and Christopher Wiehl (“First Monday”) will co-star in ESPN’s first scripted series, “Playmakers,” which will premiere Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. (ET). … Jason Gedrick (“Boomtown”) will star in the Lifetime original movie “Against Their Will: The Andrew Luster Case.”
Anthony Zuiker, the “CSI” creator, has signed a three-year deal with CBS Productions and Alliance Atlantis. He will continue as executive producer on “CSI” and “CSI: Miami” and develop new series for CBS and Alliance Atlantis. … Shawn Ryan, creator/executive producer of “The Shield,” has signed a two-year deal with Fox TV Studios. He will continue executive producing “The Shield,” which has been renewed for season three, and also develop new projects.
Michael Apted will direct “Marriage,” Steven Bochco’s upcoming series on HBO.
