Emmy Noms Ahead
Michael Chiklis (FX’s “The Shield”) and Jane Kaczmarek (Fox’s “Malcolm in the Middle”) will announce the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominations July 17, along with Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman Bryce Zabel. The announcements will begin at 5:38:30 a.m. (PT) at ATAS’ Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood. Emmy Awards Show Executive Producer Don Mischer and Television Academy President Todd Leavitt also will be present.
Press Tour Presses On
With cable’s days a wrap, the broadcast networks’ portion of the Television Critics Association press tour begins Sunday with The WB. ABC presents Monday and Tuesday, with Roseanne Barr making an appearance to promote her new summer reality series on Tuesday. Fox kicks off its two days of sessions with a breakfast for its Emmy nominees and producers Thursday morning, shortly after nominations are announced.
Echostar to drop FX?
A tense negotiation between rivals EchoStar and News Corp. over carriage of the FX Network continues this week, and the cable channel remains on the satellite service for now, an EchoStar spokesman told Television Week. “We have agreed to continue to negotiate beyond the Sunday night [July 13] deadline,” he said. A spokesman for Fox Cable Networks Group declined to comment. Fox Cable’s parent, News Corp., recently clinched a deal to acquire EchoStar’s satellite competitor DirecTV after EchoStar’s merger attempts were quashed by Washington.
