Viacom, Nielsen Make Up
WBZ-TV and WSBK-TV, the Viacom-owned CBS and UPN stations, respectively, in Boston, became Nielsen Media Research clients again last week, ending a 15-month standoff over Nielsen’s deployment of its new People Meters. Boston stations argued the People Meters would produce lower ratings than Nielsen’s previous sample. The Viacom deal leaves Sunbeam-owned NBC affiliate WHDH-TV, Tribune-owned WB affiliate WLVI-TV and Fox-owned WFXT-TV still not subscribing to Nielsen data. The development is part of a Viacom Television Stations Group-wide deal with Nielsen that could be announced as soon as Monday, July 28.
