Sharon Stone Practices Contract Law

While a highly placed source at ABC said Sharon Stone will be among the new cast on David E. Kelley’s “The Practice” who will be introduced Tuesday to TV critics, there was still a bevy of agents, producers and executives working late last week to lock up her deal for a recurring guest star role on the revamped drama. There may be other things on the “Basic Instinct” star’s mind. During the past month, as negotiations dragged on, Ms. Stone confirmed she was filing for divorce from her third husband, San Francisco newspaper exec Phil Bronstein, with whom she has a 3-year-old adopted son named Roan. Ms. Stone’s guest stint and the addition of James Spader as a regular cast member are among moves designed to revive the show, which suffered a dip in ratings last season when it was moved to a new time period, and then saw the axing of several high-profile cast members. One of the world’s hottest movie stars in the early 1990s, Ms. Stone has suffered through a series of big-screen box-office disappointments in recent years and a serious illness. An ABC insider promises her role on “The Practice” will generate new excitement for both the show and her career.
