CNN Bureau Gets A Face-Lift

Fresh remodel CNN Washington bureau chief Kathryn Kross was set to play hostess Friday night, Sept. 12, at a party celebrating the completion of a seven-figure Cinderella-esque makeover of what was the dowdiest network bureau in the nation’s capital. Now it is a sleek ode to the near future in technology and aesthetic, with exposed ceilings, raw concrete and a penthouse-loft look, courtesy of the Gensler architectural firm. Out are the cramped rows of desks. In are pod layouts in which each workstation has its own flat-screen TV, compact computer and room to spread out papers. The view from the newsroom (and a studio whose use is still to be determined) includes industrial rooftops that add a touch of reality to the familiar postcard view of the Capitol.
