The Miss America Connection

What are the odds two TV station executives with connections to Jackson, Miss.,would have daughters competing to be Miss America 2004? Ask Stuart Kellogg, GM of Hearst-Argyle’s ABC affiliate WAPT-TV in Jackson, and Tim Lynch, the Communications Corp. COO, who lives in Louisiana and oversees WDBD-TV, the Fox affiliate in Jackson. They are the proud papas of Miss Mississippi Allison Kellogg and Miss New York Jessica Lynch. Mr. Kellogg jokes that he is too distantly related to profit from the Kellogg cereal fortunes, but the connection did get him permission to use the famous red capital (among other elements) so his daughter can costume herself as “Mississippi’s Special K.” Both families will be in Atlantic City, but only Mr. Kellogg has two built-in business-justified reasons to be there. ABC is broadcasting Miss America. And the syndicated “Pyramid,” which airs on his station, has taped three episodes with Miss America contestants. Miss Kellogg’s “Pyramid” runs Thursday of Miss America week. One last coincidence: Both Miss New York and Miss Mississippi will dance on point during the talent competition.
