Affiliate Meetings Taking Shape

The calendar is filling in with dates for 2004 affiliate gatherings, which may include the first full-blown national convention for ABC affiliates since the late ’90s.
ABC is giving strong consideration to scheduling a multi-day, family-friendly affair at parent company Disney’s California Adventure, probably in June, a network spokeswoman said.
NBC has scheduled an all-affiliate gathering April 14 in New York, on the eve of the increasingly popular annual conference staged by the Television Bureau of Advertising at the Big Apple’s Javitz Center. Network executives also expect to book a working meeting with the affiliates advisory board Jan. 18-20 in Las Vegas, in conjunction with NATPE.
Fox Broadcasting will meet Jan. 16 in Las Vegas with its affiliates advisory board and Jan. 17 with its affiliate body at large, at times and location still to be decided, a network spokesman said.
CBS, the only network that has continued to hold a traditional affiliates convention each year despite any economic or network-affiliate tensions, will host its affiliates again June 2-3 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. There is no word yet on whether there will be a convention for UPN affiliates.
The WB is expected to hold its annual affiliate luncheon and afternoon session in New York during upfront week.
