Jesse Ventura’s MSNBC talk show finally premiered over the weekend, with California Gov. Gray Davis and Arianna Huffington as his first guests. On Tuesday “The Body” returns as pundit during coverage of the California recall hosted by Chris Matthews. Every major news organization and
C-SPAN plan intense coverage, but there is something appropriate about the former pro wrestler discussing celebrity candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger. For those who think the whole thing is a joke, Game Show Network will have a live “Victory Party.” GSN also will air Mr. Schwarzenegger’s 1974 appearance on “The Dating Game,” where he asked the ladies the meaning of “hanky-panky.”
TV Without Networks
What will advertisers do to counter the impact of personal video recorders? On Thursday, Coca-Cola will sponsor a music show from Universal featuring Ashanti, Sting, Mary J. Blige and others, in performance and behind the scenes. However, it won’t be on any network. It launches on the TiVo system. Subscribers click on an icon, allowing them to download the program, which also can be accessed via a trailer on the TiVo Central screen.
Casting The Best
It is often said good casting is crucial to the success of any TV show. The year’s top casting directors will be honored Wednesday during events in New York City and Beverly Hills, Calif., at the 19th Annual Casting Society of America Artios Awards, which cover film, TV and theater. TV categories include drama, comedy, animation, daytime, movies and miniseries.
