As chief operating officer of Discovery Communications, Judith McHale oversaw the company’s move last year from Bethesda, Md., to new headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., where the company immediately landed a spot on Working Mother magazine’s list of the best places to work. Ms. McHale completed a deal with The New York Times Co. to create a joint venture, Discovery Times Channel, and acquired United Learning, which produces and distributes audiovisual educational products and services. She also served as chairperson of Cable in the Classroom. At the same time, she managed to keep an eye on her company’s bottom line. Discovery Communications posted record revenues of just under $2 billion.
