Comcast’s Other Big Deal

While all the media attention last week was focused on Comcast’s bid for The Walt Disney Co., another deal involving the cable giant may have been quietly moving forward. As James Hibberd first reported last year (TelevisionWeek, Dec. 8), Comcast is in final negotiations to purchase TechTV and merge the channel with its video game network G4. Charles Hirschhorn, president of G4 and former president of Walt Disney TV, is said to be Comcast’s first choice to run the as-yet-unnamed combined network. Sources said the deal, which has been dragging on for months, is unaffected by the Disney takeover bid and nearly finished.
