The departure of Christopher Lowell from the Discovery Channel has opened the door for Barbara Smith on the cable network and at the same time closed the door on veteran syndicated series “B. Smith With Style.”
Distributor Tribune Entertainment confirmed that the weekly series will leave the airwaves in September after eight seasons. For Tribune, it was the end of a fruitful relationship.
“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed distributing `B. Smith With Style’ to stations throughout the U.S. and wish Barbara nothing but the best in her new endeavor,” said Steve Mulderrig, executive VP, domestic and cable sales, Tribune Entertainment.
This season, “B. Smith With Style” is averaging a 0.8 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research, and is running even with last year’s numbers.
In the fourth quarter of this year Ms. Smith will begin offering her take on culture via her own Discovery Channel show titled “Simply Style,” Discovery announced last week during its upfront presentation at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
The series will offer viewers tips on how to live a stress-free but stylish life with pointers on such topics as housekeeping, gardening, entertaining, cooking, fitness and beauty. Ms. Smith will demonstrate through easy how-to segments the simple tips for adding elegance to all areas of life. The show will also feature celebrity segments in which Ms. Smith and celebrity guests will show viewers the “easy elegance” tips that “stars” live by.
Ms. Smith, a former model, is a restaurateur and author whose books include “B. Smith Rituals & Celebrations.”
