Bertram van Munster, the Emmy Award-winning producer of “The Amazing Race,” is developing a new reality series for FX based on the work of customs and border officials.
The half-hour series, which has been ordered as a pilot presentation, has been described as having a behind-the-scenes feel similar to “Cops,” and likely will show officials dealing with immigration, drug and terrorism issues.
Mr. van Munster served as a producer for “Cops” on about 300 episodes. FX plays “Cops” reruns about 30 times a week, averaging a 1 rating.
The network’s first reality show attempt, “Todd TV,” has foundered in the ratings compared with “Cops” reruns. If ordered as a series, the “customs `Cops”’ concept would be the first approved by the network’s new president of entertainment, John Landgraf.
Mr. van Munster was at an undisclosed location shooting the fifth season of “The Amazing Race” and could not be reached for comment. FX declined to comment on a series in development.
