UC Berkeley student William Hung’s startlingly popular performance of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” on “American Idol” Jan. 27 did not help him on the show – he didn’t win the contest – but it landed him a record deal, a music video and thousands of fans. “The transition has been very sudden, but it’s great,” Mr. Hung said. “It’s very exciting because people are inspired by what I do.”
Mr. Hung’s CD “Inspiration” will be released by KOCH Records on April 6, the same day his “She Bangs” music video debuts exclusively on Fuse Music Network at 9 p.m. Fuse President Marc Juris has been a big supporter of the project from the get-go. “I’m a huge fan of ‘American Idol’ and in watching the show I saw Will’s audition,” Mr. Juris said. “He is exactly as he appears. He’s a very genuine anti-star.”
Mr. Hung has also become a guest of choice among television shows. He has appeared on “Dateline,” “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and on April 8 performs his banging hit for Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show.”
