The controversy over same-sex marriage checks into “Whoopi” on Tuesday when hotel owner Mavis Rae (Whoopi Goldberg) agrees to host her gay cousin’s wedding on the same weekend her brother Courtney (Wren Brown) is hosting a meeting of the Republican Inclusion Coalition.
College TV Awards
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation hosts the 25th annual College Television Awards on Sunday, recognizing work in nine categories. The next day, winning films will be screened at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, Calif. The awards are part of the foundation’s mission to help build the future of television. See story, Page 18.
Rate Debate
The Senate Commerce Committee has scheduled hearings for Thursday in Washington to consider whether a legislative fix is needed to check rising cable TV rates. Slated to testify are Jim Robbins, president and CEO, Cox Communications; and George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports.
Gotham Honors
The 47th Annual New York Emmys will be presented Sunday in New York by the National Television Academy. Chapter President Maury Povich will host. Presenters include New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Special honors are on tap for Anna Carbonell of WNBC-TV and WNJU-TV and Patrick Dolan of News 12 Long Island.
