It appears “The Amazing Race” is on track for a sixth season even before the fifth one has aired. CBS has given the go-ahead on casting beginning this week for another edition of the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced reality series, though CBS has not officially picked it up. But the green light to start casting is a strong sign of confidence in the show. “Amazing Race 5,” slated to air this summer, received its pickup only after winning an Emmy in September. According to the casting call on CBS.com, producers are aiming to start shooting the sixth edition in August.
hispanic undercount?
Nielsen Media Research officials are expected to respond as soon as this week to a request by Democratic lawmakers for an external audit to check allegations that the ratings system seriously undercounts Hispanic TV viewing. “Undercounting Latino television viewers has negative repercussions for both the Latino community and the television industry,” said the lawmakers-including Reps. Hilda Solis, D-Calif., and John Dingell, D-Mich.-in a March 25 letter. “It can ultimately lead to the cancellation of Latino-targeted programming and reluctance among executives to produce and air new Latino-oriented shows.”
Yes, We Cannes
MIPTV, the annual international market to buy and sell TV programming, takes place this week in Cannes, France. For the first time the event will also incorporate MILIA, a marketplace for intellectual property that previously was held separately. The keynote for both events, which run through April 2, will be delivered by BBC Director General Greg Dyke.
