Showtime Announces ‘!Huff’ Renewal Months Before Premiere

In what longtime Television Critics Association attendees are calling an unprecedented move, Showtime CEO Matt Blank and Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt decided to renew their upcoming dramatic series “!Huff” during the show’s TCA panel in Los Angeles. Actors were visibly shocked when Mr. Greenblatt said the show will receive a second season order, since the program does not premiere for another four months.

“The curse is broken!” exclaimed “!Huff” actress Paget Brewster, who has starred in a slew of single-season network shows such as “Andy Richter Controls the Universe.”

Claiming the decision was made moments before the panel began, Mr. Greenblatt said he doesn’t care what kind of ratings the show receives.

The news came on top of what had already been a news-making session, with Mr. Greenblatt’s announcing third-season pickups for “Family Business” and “Penn & Teller: Bullshit!” and announcing the greenlighting of a six-episode half-hour comedy called “Fat Actress,” starring Kirstie Alley. In “Fat Actress,” Ms. Alley plays a semi-fictitious version of herself-a Hollywood star struggling with weight gain and searching for true love.

Showtime also announced the development of a series based on the hit movie “Barbershop,” which was first reported by TelevisionWeek in early July.
