MTV on Tuesday announced an election-themed special called “Chat the Planet: Baghdad 2-Way,” which links Kent State University students to an online discussion with young people in Iraq for an uncensored discussion about the war. The special, which will premiere Oct. 4, is part of the network’s “Choose or Lose” campaign, which attempts to ignite viewer interest in election issues.

“Half the population of the planet is under the age of 25, so peer-to-peer communication about critical issues like tolerance, diversity and peace is even more important,” said Laurie Meadoff, executive producer of “Chat the Planet.” “Our goal with this episode of ‘Chat the Planet’ is to encourage greater understanding between Iraqi and American youth.”

MTV News correspondent Gideon Yago will host the special.
