ABC’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ No. 1 for the Week

ABC’s Sunday night camp mystery “Desperate Housewives” was the No. 1 program for the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3 in adults 18 to 49 and total viewers.

“Desperate Housewives'” 8.9 rating in adults 18 to 49 and 21.64 million total viewers put the Touchstone Television show at the top of both weekly rankings, according to Nielsen Media Research.

In Adults 18 to 49, ABC held the No. 2 spot as well with “Monday Night Football” (8.1). Football was followed by CBS’s “Survivor: Vanuatu-Islands of Fire” (7.5), “CSI: Miami” (7.2), and “CSI: NY” (7.1). NBC’s shuffled Wednesday airing of “The Apprentice” was in sixth place in the demo with a 6.8, followed by ABC’s “Lost” (6.5), CBS’s “Everybody Loves Raymond” and ABC’s NFL pre-game show (both 6.1) and ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

ABC’s five top-10 shows in adults 18 to 49 helped the network take the week in the demo with a 4.1, followed by CBS (3.7), NBC (3.6), Fox (2.2), The WB (1.6) and UPN (1.3).

CBS was more dominant in total viewers, taking the second-place spot with “Survivor” (19.92 million), third place with “CSI: Miami” (19.72 million) and fourth with “CSI: NY” (19.47 million). Next up was ABC’s “MNF” with 19.37 million viewers, followed by “Everybody Loves Raymond” (18.69 million), ABC’s premiere of “Lost” (17.00 million), CBS’s “Two and a Half Men” (16.60 million), a Wednesday episode “CSI” (16.36 million) and the NFL pre-game show (15.24 million).

CBS won the week in viewers with 12.34 million, followed by ABC (10.84 million), NBC (9.72 million), Fox (5.05 million), the WB (3.99 million) and UPN (3.13 million).
