Court TV, which has been calling itself “The Investigation Channel” in prime time, is upset at plans by A&E Networks to launch The Crime and Investigation Network overseas.

A&E said its network, expected to launch Jan. 1 in Australia, will use A&E programming, including “Investigative Reports” and “Cold Case Files.” An A&E spokesperson said the new network is focusing on international markets, but could eventually find a home in the United States. The spokesperson said A&E is aware of Court TV’s “Investigation Channel” slogan, but said its name is Court TV.

Court TV CEO Henry Schleiff responded with a statement saying, “We are displeased that A&E would want to capitalize on our brand name, Court TV: The Investigation Channel, rather than demonstrate originality in creating a name of its own. We look forward either to A&E reconsidering its choice of a brand name or to seeing them in court … on Court TV.”
