HBO Films President Colin Callender, who helped guide “Angels in America” to 11 Emmys, has been named to oversee miniseries at the premium network.

Adding miniseries to Mr. Callender’s plate “is a natural fit,” an HBO spokesman said. “Angels in America” was developed as a movie project but was broadcast in multiple parts and designated a miniseries for Emmys consideration. Mr. Callender, who joined HBO in 1987, is now overseeing “Empire Falls,” another miniseries project, produced by and starring Paul Newman.

Miniseries responsibilities had been handled by Anne Thomopoulos, who was senior VP, original programming. Ms. Thomopoulos has become executive producer of HBO project “Rome,” which started as a miniseries but has evolved into a series that HBO anticipates will be on the network in the fourth quarter of next year.

An HBO spokesperson said Ms. Thomopoulos was in Europe for several months working on “Rome” and she decided she’d rather work on the project in a producing capacity. She will continue to have an office at HBO, and the network has an agreement for her to executive produce future projects for HBO.

Ms. Thomopoulos joined HBO in 1992 as VP, original programming. Miniseries she oversaw include “The Corner,” “From the Earth to the Moon” and “Band of Brothers.”
