Deborah Barak has been promoted to executive VP, business affairs, for CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group, group President Nancy Tellem announced Wednesday.

Ms. Barak will oversee business affairs for CBS Entertainment and Paramount Network Television, under the direction of division presidents Nina Tassler and David Stapf, respectively. She will supervise all business matters, including the negotiation of talent, producer deals and license fees, on behalf of both divisions.

Ms. Barak had been senior VP, business affairs, CBS Entertainment since February 2002. Prior to that, she had been senior VP, business planning and special projects, playing a key role in the negotiation of new media deals and co-production agreements. While at CBS, Ms. Barak structured the original “Survivor” cast contract, which has become the template for reality television agreements.

She joined the network in 1985 as broadcast counsel in CBS’s West Coast law department. Prior to joining CBS, Ms. Barak was an associate at O’Melveny & Myers.
