On the heels of “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart’s public spats with Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly and “Crossfire” commentator Tucker Carlson, the right-wing political gossip Web site Drudge Report on Monday declared that the “Daily Show” ratings were down 7 percent last month in a “surprise audience erosion.”

According to Comedy Central, however, the opposite is true-“Daily Show” is up 7 percent.

“Drudge jumped on the fake news bandwagon yesterday,” a Comedy Central press release read. “If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then ‘The Daily Show With Jon Stewart’ has a huge fan in Matt Drudge.”

“The Daily Show” recently enjoyed a strong boost due to its coverage of the presidential debates. Its debate coverage the week of Sept. culminated in that week becoming the most-watched in the show’s history.
