The debut of the Lifetime original movie “Plain Truth” became the network’s highest-rated movie of the year and nearly toppled TNT’s “Salem’s Lot” as the most-watched basic cable movie of 2004. “Plain Truth” — the adaptation of Jodi Picoult novel about a trial lawyer defending a young Amish girl accused of murder — averaged 4.7 million viewers when it premiered Oct. 4.
