NFL Network’s VOD Service Doing Well on Comcast

The NFL Network’s video-on-demand service is quickly becoming one of the most popular free on-demand offerings on Comcast since its debut at the start of the NFL season in early September.

During the first nine days the service, which started Sept. 9, Comcast reported 600,000 downloads of “NFL Replay,” the highlight package offered the day after a game airs live. The NFL Network said its on-demand service was the most popular VOD product in Comcast’s Philadelphia market the first week it was offered. Overall, the most popular markets for the service are Philadelphia, Denver, Pittsburgh and Boston, NFL Network said.

In addition, the network has added its first VOD advertiser in Bowflex, which will start sponsorship of the highlights Oct. 4 with 15-second ads at the beginning and the end.

“Viewers have really responded to the convenience and excitement of NFL Replay,” said Page Thompson, VP of marketing for new video products at Comcast. “We are seeing some interesting usage — like a spike in orders on Saturday, apparently as fans scout opponents prior to game day.”
