Viacom on Wednesday said that Oracle President Charles Phillips was elected to the media giant’s board of directors, filling a seat left open by the Aug. 25 death of director David McLaughlin.

Mr. Phillips, 45, will serve on the Viacom board’s audit committee, which brings to 14 the number of Viacom directors.

Mr. Phillips joined Oracle in 2003 and became president of the software company in January 2004. Before that he was a managing director at investment bank Morgan Stanley.
