Belo Corp. said Wednesday it has signed a letter of agreement with HIC Broadcasting under which Belo will provide advertising sales help and technical and facility support for HIC’s Fort Worth, Texas, independent station KFWD-TV.

As part of the alliance, Belo, which owns WFAA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Dallas, said it will provide limited programming to KFWD. Belo also has the option of buying KFWD’s assets, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

The move is the latest example of a station group striking an alliance with another station in a market where it already owns a station. Last week, Meredith Broadcasting Group inked a deal in which it agreed to operate Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned KSMO-TV in Kansas City, Kan.
