MTV has given the go-ahead to two new reality shows — “Meet the Barkers” (yet another chronicle of a music star’s spare time, featuring Blink 182’s Travis Barker) and “Nick Lachey Project” (working title, a show following the singer as he tries to launch his solo career). The network has also picked up a third season of “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica,” in which Mr. Lachey stars with his wife, Jessica Simpson; and a second season of “The Ashlee Simpson Show.”

“Newlyweds” and “Ashlee” will return Jan. 5. Brian Graden, president of entertainment for MTV and VH1, noted that the premiere date represents a scheduling shift for the network.

“Roughly 10 years ago, MTV broke the traditional fall and spring programming cycles and became the first channel to introduce a summer lineup.” Mr. Graden said. “Once again, we’re breaking the traditional TV model by introducing a constantly changing roster of original series 52 weeks of the year. ‘Newlyweds’ and ‘Ashlee’ and then ‘Nick’ and ‘The Barkers’ will be paired together and will represent the first wave in our move towards 52 weeks of originals in the 10 spot.”
