Frederick Huntsberry on Tuesday was named interim president and chief operating officer of Universal Pictures, temporarily replacing Rick Finkelstein, who was seriously injured last month in a skiing accident.

Mr. Huntsberry previously was executive VP of NBC Universal Television Distribution and chief financial officer of NBC Universal Television Group. He will step away from his chief financial officer duties while filling in for Mr. Finkelstein, though he will continue to oversee NBCU’s TV distribution business.

There was no word on when Mr. Finkelstein might return to work.

In his interim role, Mr. Huntsberry will be responsible for Universal Pictures Television Distribution, business development and strategic planning, technology and music operations. Universal Studios Home Entertainment President Craig Kornblau and Universal Studios International Video President Pete Smith will both report to Mr. Huntsberry, who will report Universal Pictures Chairman Stacey Snider.

Mr. Huntsberry’s CFO duties at NBCU Television Group will be assumed by Andy Warren, senior VP and CFO of NBCU Television Studios, Distribution and International Channels; and Howard Averill, senior VP and CFO, NBCU Entertainment Television.
