Brian Morewitz has joined ABC as VP of drama development, ABC Entertainment. The announcement was made Tuesday by Suzanne Patmore-Gibbs, senior VP of drama development, to whom he reports.

Mr. Morewitz comes to ABC after a dozen years in feature films. Most recently he was senior VP at the Sony-based production-financing entity Escape Artists, where he worked with principals Steve Tisch, Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal. He oversaw development and was attached to co-produce the feature films “Knowing,” “The Bermuda Triangle” and “Harvard Heist.”

Mr. Morewitz previously ran Lucas Foster’s company, also based at Sony, and while there initiated development of John August’s big-budget remake of “Fantasy Island” and developed “The Mission” with writer Tom Wheeler (“Empire”).

He began his career at age 19 as a summer intern-later hired on as a story editor-at New Line Cinema, where he worked under Mike De Luca.
