ABC and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Monday the Academy Awards telecast will continue to air on the network through 2014.

The new agreement adds six years to the existing contract covering domestic broadcast of the Oscars, which was scheduled to expire in 2008. International rights are covered by a separate agreement with ABC’s corporate cousin Buena Vista International that runs through 2010.

By 2014, The Academy Awards will have aired for 38 consecutive years on ABC. The telecast is traditionally the network’s top-rated entertainment program of the year.

This year’s Academy Awards, hosted by Chris Rock, will air Sunday, Feb. 27.
