The House telecommunications subcommittee has announced a hearing Feb. 17 to consider “the role of technology in achieving a hard deadline for the DTV transition.” In a statement, the subcommittee said a witness list for the hearing has yet to be finalized, and no further details about the session were provided. But leading lawmakers, including Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, have been promoting legislation that would require broadcasters to make the switch to digital as soon as 2006.
